Richard was born in Southern California and received his M.B.A. from Harvard Business School in 1986, and his B.A. in economics in 1982 from the University of California, Santa Barbara. He is on the board of trustees of UCSB, among other civic involvements, and has also served on the corporate boards of industry leaders such as Boeing and Expedia.
From 1986 to 1998, Richard held a variety of increasingly senior executive positions at the Walt Disney Company, culminating in the role of Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. He also served as President of Disney Stores Worldwide and Corporate Treasurer, among many other roles. From 1998 to 1999, Richard served as President and Chief Operating Officer for Starwood Hotels and Resorts in New York. Prior to joining Amgen in 2001, Richard was Chairman and Chief Executive Officer at Broadband Sports, Inc., an Internet media company.
Richard Nanula was also previously the Principal of Colony Capital, LLC, who owned Fairmont Hotels. Prior to joining Colony Capital, Richard was Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Amgen Inc.
